ANTI-AGEING + SKIN CONDITIONS
WHY DO WE NEED MAGNESIUM AS WE AGE?
Research shows that long-term magnesium deficiency accelerates aging of human cells, initiating age-related and chronic diseases such as osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and certain cancers.
Magnesium plays a major role in almost all biochemical processes that maintain life, but as you age, your body’s ability to absorb and store magnesium decreases. In fact, research shows the average magnesium level of individuals in their 70s is only two-thirds of what it was during their 30s.
Magnesium deficiency stimulates increased secretion of PTH or parathyroid hormone, which inhibits bones storing the absorbed calcium. This leads to the calcification or hardening of the mitochondria, which the main energy factories of the cells.
The lack of a well-functioning mitochondrion disrupts the body’s ability to produce the energy needed to fuel its biochemical processes.
With unresolved magnesium deficiency, the organs begin to age, increasing your risk of developing different diseases. To put simply, once the magnesium-dependent mitochondria begin to calcify, every function of your body diminishes, which leads to faster aging. Then there is the shortening of telomeres, there is plenty of evidence* that reveals a shortening of these is directly linked to ageing.
What is a Telomere?
The human body is made up of 100 trillion cells. According to one theory, you age because your cells age. Hence if you can control the aging process in your cells, you should be able to control your aging.
Every cell contains a nucleus. Inside the nucleus are the chromosomes that contain your genes. The chromosome is made up of two "arms," and each arm contains a single molecule DNA, which is essentially a string of beads made up of units called bases.
A typical DNA molecule is about 100 million bases long. It's curled up like slinky, extending from one end of the chromosome to the other. At the very tip of each arm of the chromosome is where you'll find the telomere.
Immediately after conception your cells begin to divide, and your telomeres begin to shorten each time the cell divides.
Once your telomeres have been reduced to about 5,000 bases, you essentially die of old age. This telomere shortening process cannot be affected or stopped by healthy eating habits or exercise. telomere shortening can be accelerated by an unhealthy lifestyle. Obesity, lack of exercise, psychological stress and smoking, all cause production of free radicals. Free radicals can cleave telomeres, which speeds up the telomere shortening process.
Transdermal magnesium for the most dramatic results.
Other benefits include improving your skin’s overall appearance by inhibiting the over production of sebum that leads to acne and other disorders of the skin. To get a clear and even skin tone with the highest level of magnesium absorption, transdermal magnesium may be for you. People with redness or rosacea tend to rely on it because of its calming agent on sensitive skin.
Magnesium for skin: why it’s the best acne and wrinkle fighting supplement.
Have you noticed that when you’re stressed, acne almost always tends to make an appearance? This is not coincidental. Under a flight or fight situation, your body releases hormones known as adrenaline and cortisol that cause us to take action in the presence of danger. Unfortunately, the type of stress we deal with on a day to day basis these days is not temporary. Work, kids, late nights, gym, all sorts of things lead to stress unless we learn to manage them. (This is also the start of our long term battle against acne. This state of chronic stress leads to a build of cortisol, causing the skin to get clogged with a build-up of excreted oil also known as sebum.)
